For most of us, we think of a pocket watch as a thing of the old, unfashionable, dull, boring, and so on and so forth. So many negative things can be said about them. However, most people fail realize the rich history that is behind pocket watches. After all, if they were not invented, then we won’t probably be wearing wristwatches now, since the idea of having a wristwatch come from pocket watches. That’s life, we copy, we imitate, and that’s what we humans also do best.

The rich history of pocket watches can be seen everywhere we look. Just type it in any search engine, and you’ll know about it. However, what most people do not know about is the fact that one of its leading manufacturers in the old times, and even up until now is the Waltham Watch Company. But, why is it that you don’t see a Waltham pocket watch that often?

For one thing, you can blame the recent fashion trend for its “extinction”. Due to the fact that more and more people believed that wristwatches were more fashionable and stylish than the “plain”, “old” and “boring” pocket watches, less and less people used the latter. Heck, even the past presidents endorsed this. This is evidenced by the fact that the late President Abraham Lincoln used a watch manufactured by the Waltham Watch Company. Currently, it is now considered as a artifact and a museum piece, and is on display in the National Museum of American History at Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.

Still, you’ll see a Waltham pocket watch every now and then, though they are not as common as before. There are still people that use them, and buy them on a regular basis, and the Waltham Watch Company has yet to follow the footsteps of the Hamilton Watch Company which was bought by a much bigger company in recent years.
