The glider rocking chair seems to be the most popular style of nursery rocking chair. These rockers have a smoother motion to them than a regular wooden rocker, which is more soothing to both baby and mother and/or caregiver. A rocker with padded arms gives a much more comfortable area to place your arms while having the weight of baby on them. Also, it is nicer for baby to feel the padding beneath him/her should he/she lay partly on the arms of the rocker. A thickly padded seat cushion is much more comfortable than one that is thinly padded. When testing rockers out, if possible, take baby with you, or imagine baby sitting with you, and sit in the rocker to see how the rocker feels to you.
