How To Use a Mobility Scooter

With a mobility scooter, those with mobility problems are able to move around freely. But it is also worth noting that there is a way in which they are used. For starters, you should be able to check the scooter’s battery even before thinking of using it in the first place. This is majorly because its mobility will greatly depend on the longevity of the battery. The battery life will again depend on how frequently the scooter is used and its size as well.

The second step on using a mobility scooter is seeing to it that you sit on it comfortably first, before thinking of discharging the brake mechanism. This is simply because failure to do so could see the scooter move as you position yourself and it could mean total disaster should you land on the floor with your head. Soon after positioning yourself, you should then ensure that you have placed both feet on the scooter while you also place both hands on the handle bars. It has been said to be unsafe when it comes to matters riding with your foot on the ground.

Turning on the mobility scooter should then follow, but this should only be done once you are comfortably seated. There is no use in turning it on and yet you are not using it. Note that the battery needs to be conserved and it is therefore prudent to have the machine off when not in use. Acceleration should not be abrupt as it could lead to the scooter tearing and wearing and it could as well lead to accidents as you could easily fall. Braking should also be gradual and it is advised that you should leave a safe distance between where the scooter is positioned and nearby objects.

Riding the scooter on a flat surface is the advised, since it is not fitted with shock absorbers which will be able to withstand the pressure from curbs.
