When I signed up for satellite TV, I was careful to ask plenty of questions about the installation process. For example, it is widely advertised that Direct TV installation is free. What you need to know is that standard installation is free. What is standard installation? Generally, it means if there aren’t any crazy things that need to be done to get service up and running, then it is free. If there is “extra installation” required, meaning new cables that have to be pulled long distances, or an unusual situation for the satellite dish, then the installer should quote you what it will cost up front before work starts. That way, if you still want to get the service, you can do so without having a surprise
bill come up after the fact.
