My friends talked me into going on this crazy ride on the boardwalk here in Seaside Heights NJ. The ride is called the Tower of Fear. It is a really high tower that is like an elevator. Except instead of the elevator being an box you get inside of, the way up is a contraption that is wrapped around the tower. And instead of a box you get into there are these body holders that you get strapped into. This is arranged so that you are facing out, and more or less strapped in around your chest and crotch.
When the ride goes off it is a really weird feeling. It is really fast and slows as you get closer to the top. At first I was really disoriented as there is so much going on that your head and senses aren’t used to. It is just not right to be seeing your perspective be one of flying but there is nothing between you and your continually rising self. By the time I was comfortable with the whole idea of what was going on I was about to the top. Then it was awesome. From my perch on the top of the Tower of Fear I could see a lot all around me. All of Seaside Heights, the boardwalk, beach and town, were laid out below me. I could easily see the barrier island layout of the piece of land Seaside is on. Barnegat Bay and Toms River were also really cool to see from that perspective.
I must say I did not enjoy a lot of the sensations that went into getting to the top of this ride but I really liked seeing all that I did once I was perched above the boardwalk and Seaside Heights.
