Not too long ago my father-in-law’s toilet backed up and watered soaked his carpeted floors. Imagine that, carpeting in a bathroom! Of course he’s learned his lesson, but at the time he had no idea how to remove mold from the bathroom carpet. The result? He paid a very high price for a new floor.
Unfortunately if the damage is more than minimal you’ll have to break down and purchase a new floor. Of course, I don’t recommend carpeting a bathroom! But, if the carpet only has a small of damage from molds, you may be able to safely clean the affected area.
To begin, identify the source of the mold and repair the problem.
Once it’s repaired, you can then clean the affected area of flooring by applying a product that is designed specifically for the removal of mold from fabrics directly to the source.
Next, allow the product to set for the amount of time specified by the manufacturer. Then, use a wet/dry vacuum to absorb the product and dry the area thoroughly.
Once the area is completely dry, you’ll want to invest in a dehumidifier to help keep the area dry. And if the area you live in is really humid, you may want to consider purchasing more than one, unless of course you really want to try to remove mold from your carpet once again.
