If you are a proud new owner of a Guinea Pig, you may be looking for information on how to look after them properly. Firstly, you need to consider their diet. Guinea Pigs will eat pretty much any kitchen scraps you wish to throw at them, but you should steer clear of some of the richer foods like rhubarb and potatoes. These foods can have adverse affects on your Guinea Pigs health. Another thing you have to keep in mind is to constantly clean their guinea pig run. If it is not cleaned on a regular basis, it can be a breeding ground for diseases.

Guinea Pigs make a great pet for children, but they are by and large a social animal, and will be at their happiest if they have some fellow guinea pigs to keep them company. The downside to this is that you need to be careful that you chose guinea pigs of the same sex, otherwise you are going to end up with a lot more of these animals than you orginally planned.

Give your guinea pigs plenty of love, make sure that they are safe from predators and the elements (keep them warm in the winter and cool in the hot summer months), and you and your family will have a wonderful companion for many years to come.
