5 Things You Can Do to Have a Better Office Reception Desk for Your Clients

Below you will find 5 different things you can do to enhance your office reception area, and make things better for your customers.

1. If it’s possible, you should place the office reception desk to face the entry door for the office. This way as customers and clientele enter the waiting area, they quickly and easily know where to go for help and guidance. If you’ve already installed your reception desk, and it is unable to be moved in this manner, you may risk some confusion amongst your clients when they visit.

2. After you’ve dealt with getting the receptionist desk facing the appropriate way, you then need to turn your attention on the actual waiting room furniture. Place these chairs and sofas that your guests will occupy to face the receptionist and the doorway they expect you to come through to greet them. They will be more comfortable during their wait, if it is easy for them to determine where you will come from, as well as if that point is in their line of sight and now somewhere behind them.

3. Magazines, magazines, magazines. Lots of magazines, of all different types and interests. Don’t make the mistake of having nothing but field and stream on your work desk. Instead have a variety, like the above mentioned field and stream, as well as home and garden, seventeen, life, or time, and throw in some kid’s magazines as well to round things off. Nothing will bore a Non sports enthusiast faster than sitting for twenty minutes in a waiting area filled with nothing but Sports Illustrated for example. Give some variation to tour reading material for your guests.

4. You should really consider offering some sort of beverage refreshment to your customers. This can be done in a self serve fashion, and in most cases is more appropriate in this way. It doesn’t need to be really big, and can be as little as a drinking fountain, or water cooler. But, it may go a long way to upgrade to something like a coffee pot station, or even a fountain drink stand for sodas. This may seem like a big expense, but really, these types of refreshments can be offered for literally pennies per cup.

5. Offer some music to help pass the time for your waiting customers. Play nice mellow, relaxing music for your guests to read their magazines quietly to. The alternative to mellow music is to put in a T.V. set and pump some sort of easy going show to, or maybe CNN or something that many people can watch for a few moments at a time without the fear of being pulled into a show they then have to walk away from.
