LEGO Batman Building Sets

Over the past decade, LEGO sets have morphed from space, castle, and pirate designs into toys that closely follow blockbuster films; from Star Wars LEGO sets to Indiana Jones to Harry Potter, there is a building set for fans of any age and capacity. One of the most popular recent movie themed sets to be released is LEGO Batman, taking on the Caped Crusader’s world in rendered plastic bricks, incorporating both the new films and the classic characters. One of the largest and most iconic of these new sets is The Tumbler: Joker’s Ice Cream Surprise, a set where the user puts together the new design of the Batmobile to combat the nefarious Joker as he exploits Gotham City in his gas spewing ice cream truck.

At four hundred and forty nine pieces, including Batman himself and the arch villain Joker, the Tumbler LEGO set is the largest in the Batman mini world – though, by comparison, a paltry size compared to other sets that top several thousand pieces – and also the most expensive of these at fifty dollars. Available at toy stores across the country and major retail outlets such as Wal Mart or Target, this plastic Batman set was released in 2008, timed to coincide with the release of the second Batman film.

Reviews of these LEGO Batman products have been positive, but nowhere near as resoundingly successful as other product lines from LEGO. The Tumbler, for example, boasts a solid four of five stars from the online reviews from the LEGO website, polling nearly twenty thousand users. The other Batman sets fare just as well and while this is certainly a successful product, it does not enjoy the near unanimous support that other LEGO franchises – most notably the Star Wars building sets – have created.

Featuring the namesake’s armored, crime fighting, car boosting missile systems and facing the Joker’s crime vehicle (that has armaments of its own), the LEGO Batman Tumbler set is suitable for ages seven to twelve and includes Batman, the Joker and a henchman to do battle for the future of a plastic brick-based Gotham City.
