Is Resveratrol For Real?

Shows such as CBS’s 60 minutes, the Oprah Winfrey show, and Good Morning America has recently featured an anti-aging supplement called resveratrol.  The supposed benefits of resveratrol include living an extra 10 to 15 years and fighting off age related diseases such as Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and cancer.

The reason this substance works is because it mimics the calorie restriction diet.  When your body receives less calories than it is used to, it triggers a survival mechanism that can extend life and fight diseases.

There is little doubt that this natural compound is for real, as extensive research has been done on its benefits.  However, there is much controversy over the amount needed to receive these great results.  Some claim that a pill will need to be developed that contains the amount of resveratrol found in 1000 bottles of wine, while others claim you only need one that has a dosage equaling 3 to 5 bottles of wine.

We may be a few years away from knowing the exact truth by how resveratrol affects humans, but when we figure it out it could be the key to a longer healthier life.
