Generally speaking, the biggest cost involved when planning a wedding is feeding and watering your guests. If money is tight then the best place to cut back costs is to trim your wedding guest list.

So how do you decide who gets one of your coveted wedding invitations?

The time limit – If you haven’t spent time with the person in more than two years they don’t need to be invited. This rule can be bent for people who live overseas or out of town.

Extended family – This can be tricky if you are a close family, but you may have to draw the line at second cousins or even cousin’s partners if the budget is really tight.

Family friends – If they are friends of your parents and have watched you grow up then great! But if they are from Dad’s golf club and you’ve never laid eyes on them, then they aren’t really a ‘must have’ guest.

Partners – Very tricky situation. Normally if they are a long term partner they should get invited whether you know them or not. But people who are in casual relationships don’t need to bring their partners.
