It might seem strange to write about using toys as a Father’s Day gift. However, the proper toys can make a great gift. If you know a father, grandfather or other male relative that collects miniature sets, then you should keep three words in mind: toy soldiers, Airfix.
The Airfix company makes toy soldiers, miniature soldiers that can be used with in a collector’s kit. Historians often enjoy using miniature soldiers to re-create a certain battle scene. Airfix makes all kinds of soldiers.
They fashion miniature fighting men that look like the fighters in Wold War I and II. They also sell tiny military men that resemble the men who fought with Napoleon. In addition, they make small replicas of the men who served in the Calvary.
Airfix even has miniature models of the men who fought in the ancient Roman army. However, Airfix has yet to come out with any replicas of the ancient Persian warriors. By the same token, copies of the Rebels and Union forces, those that fought in the Civil War do not appear on the list of Airfix products.
Airfix makes its toy soldiers in two different sizes. Some are 1/32 of the size of an average man. Others are even smaller–just 1/72 of the size of an average man. It will be interesting to see what new battle scenes are chosen for depiction with toy soldiers. Airfix products of the future might include miniature versions of small villages, such as those found in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In the future, Airfix products might be expected to include both fighting men and fighting women. Airfix kits might also contain a new type of fighting tool– miniature unmanned planes. Then in a miniature re-enactment of present day battles, an unmanned plane, could bomb a spot where terrorists had gathered.
