In many states the earliest driving age is 16 where in others it is 15. Many people have problems with teenagers being able to drive too young because they are more likely to get into accidents. This is why car insurance for drivers is often more expensive. Should teens be able to drive at this age?
Safety is usually the biggest concern. Some teens get their driver’s permit and then get their license a month later. That’s hardly enough time to learn how to drive safely. In some states, they are required to get at least 10 hours of driving experience in, preferably 20. Some won’t let them get their license until 6 months after they have had their permit.
Should the driving age be moved up? If you make it too high, many teenagers wouldn’t be able to drive to work at their part time jobs which could cause problems. If you make it 20 or over, college students wouldn’t be able to drive to school and those out of high school completely wouldn’t be able to drive to work.
Changing the age probably wouldn’t help anyone. We really just need to make sure that teens are properly instructed, get a lot of experience with another experienced driver, and drive home to them the importance of driving safely.
