Eyelet curtains are generally of a relatively simple construction, and have the advantage of being easy to install. Eyelets are nothing more than small openings in the fabric of the curtains near the top which are carefully stitched around the edges to keep the fabric from unraveling, or which are framed by metal or plastic circles sewn into the fabric for that purpose.
Some models are intended to have the mounting rod from which they will hang simply inserted through the eyelets themselves. Other styles employ round hangers which loop around the rod and through the eyelet in the curtain fabric, as is often the case with shower curtains.
When preparing to choose or make eyelet curtains, be sure to account in your measurements for the material to be able to pleat naturally along the rod. If you choose to buy ready made curtains, this will be accounted for by the manufacturer, so all you have to do is carefully measure the width of the opening you want to cover.
If you intend to go the do it yourself route and are not experienced in such matters, you will want to take those measurements to a fabric shop where you can get advice and perhaps an appropriate pattern for you to use. You will also want to get a supply of curtain tape. This is a strip of sturdy fabric that is sewn along the back of the top of the curtain material as reinforcement. t’s necessary to reinforce that part of your curtains as it is where the eyelets will be set and which will have to endure the stress of opening and closing the curtains.
Naturally, eyelet curtains are easy to find in any department store. In more populated areas, there are often shops specializing in window coverings where you’ll find a larger variety. For the greatest variety, though, you can look at the many offerings to be found on line. It is almost a certainty that you will find something just right for your home decor needs.
