Portable Printer – Is It Easy To Install?

If you have recently purchased a portable printer or are planning to purchase one you may have the concern that they will not be easy to install. Surely, a printer so compact, tiny and convenient could not be easy to install.

While the installation process does vary between makes or portable printers, it is not too different between manufacturers. The setup process generally rivals the setup process of traditional stationary printers.

Some of these portable printers are plug and play which essentially means if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 (they usually have drivers for the newer printers) all you have to do is connect it, turn the power on and wait for your computer to set it up. Once setup is complete you will get a “balloon pop-up” telling you it’s done and your printer is ready to use.

Unfortunately, not all portable printers work with such ease and some may require driver disks. The process for such printers as a general rule usually means connection the power cable, inserting the cartridges, loading paper into the tray and then placing the Setup CD-ROM into your CD/DVD drive. Once the CD-ROM is placed into your CD/DVD drive, the automatic installation process will begin. This is a wizard, which walks you through the entire setup process and usually takes about 8 minutes to complete. The process usually starts with instructing you to connect the USB cable from the printer to your PC and then to press “Next”. Once you press “Next” it will install necessary drivers so that your computer can successfully communicate with the portable printer. Once the drivers are installed, the setup wizard will move to the next step of the installation process and then exit. Once completed you will be able to use your portable printer.

Many users no longer have CD-ROM drives such as on their net-books. In this instance, the drivers can be obtained through windows update automatically or from the manufactures website. Portable printers are incredibly user friendly and easy to install.
