Most large stores and many small stores have lighted signs out in front of their businesses. Some haven’t made the change yet and wonder if they should. I would say that the answer to this is almost always yes. The only time I can think that a lighted sign might not be appropriate would be determined by your location.
For example, if you own a clock repair shop on an historic street. Maybe it’s an old main street in a quaint little town. Businesses are lined up one after another and they are all using handmade signs to advertise their business. Some might think this is a great opportunity to stand out and use a lighted sign. Those people would be wrong. In circumstances like this, you want to show to your “discriminating” customer that you are worthy of being in there with all of the other charming shops. Having a nice hand carved or hand forged sign will make say just that.
