When you start your quest to play electric guitar, you always want to be able to play those sick riffs, and gain the speed of John Petrucci or Yngwie Malmsteen. Learning complicated techniques right from the start won’t be of much help though, you need to spend time mastering the basics of electric guitar! For example in order to get faster, you won’t achieve much speed if you don’t master the simple technique of tremolo picking, which is basically picking the note up and down continuously at high speed.
The basics also include learning basic scales shapes on the guitar, like for example the Major scale, the minor pentatonic scale and the blues scale. This will give you an initial step towards acquiring a musical language.
