The Importance Of Non Verbal Communication

People take great care with the words they use, especially in important situations like job interviews, but rarely consider the other signals they are sending when communicating with others. It’s important to consider the message you’re sending to others with your non verbal communication.

Eye contact is a great way to let the other person know you’re interested and engaged. Leaning forward slightly also communicates engagement. If your arms are crossed, you send off the signal that you’re closed off; try resting your arms at your side. Be aware of your facial expressions and posture as well.

It may take a bit of work, especially if you’re not used to considering these elements of your communication style, but the effectiveness of your everyday communication will increase dramatically if you pay attention to your nonverbal skills.
